1. Policy Statement

At Mutec Concrete, the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, clients, contractors, and visitors are our highest priorities.
We are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment across all our operations — from production plants and transport activities to construction sites and administrative offices.

We believe that every incident is preventable, and we continuously work toward achieving a zero-accident culture through proactive safety management, staff training, and strict compliance with Ugandan occupational safety laws and international best practices.


2. Our Safety Objectives

Mutec Concrete’s Health and Safety Policy is guided by the following objectives:

  • Prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and property damage.
  • Promote safe behavior and a strong safety culture among all employees.
  • Ensure all equipment and vehicles are maintained in safe operating condition.
  • Provide proper training, supervision, and protective gear for all staff.
  • Comply with all legal requirements under Uganda’s Occupational Safety and Health Act and related regulations.
  • Continually improve health and safety performance through monitoring and evaluation.

3. Responsibilities

a) Management Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, resources, and accountability for implementing this policy.
  • Ensure all safety systems and emergency procedures are in place and regularly reviewed.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and ensure compliance with NEMA, UNBS, and Ministry of Labour safety standards.

b) Employee Responsibilities:

  • Follow all safety rules, procedures, and instructions.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly at all times.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near-misses immediately to supervisors.
  • Participate actively in safety meetings and training programs.

c) Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe work practices are followed at all job sites.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and hazard inspections.
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions promptly.

4. Workplace Safety Measures

Mutec Concrete enforces comprehensive safety protocols across all operations, including:

  • Mandatory PPE: Helmets, gloves, safety boots, high-visibility jackets, and masks.
  • Safe Machinery Operations: Only trained personnel operate batching plants, mixers, and heavy equipment.
  • Vehicle Safety: All delivery trucks undergo regular inspection and servicing.
  • Signage and Barriers: Warning signs and safety markings are placed at critical areas.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Firefighting equipment, first-aid kits, and trained response teams are always available.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Safety: All electrical installations are grounded, tested, and maintained by certified electricians.

5. Health and Welfare

Mutec Concrete ensures that all workers have access to:

  • Clean drinking water and sanitation facilities
  • Proper rest breaks during shifts
  • Medical check-ups and first aid support
  • Safe and healthy accommodation for staff at remote project sites

We also provide mental health awareness programs and encourage open communication about well-being at work.


6. Training and Awareness

Every employee undergoes continuous safety training covering topics such as:

  • Equipment handling and maintenance
  • Hazard recognition and control
  • Fire safety and emergency response
  • Manual lifting techniques
  • Chemical and cement handling precautions
    Training records are maintained and reviewed regularly to ensure competence and compliance.

7. Incident Reporting and Investigation

All accidents, injuries, or near-miss events must be reported immediately.
Our safety team conducts investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
We maintain transparency in reporting and encourage a “no-blame” culture that promotes learning and improvement.


8. COVID-19 and Disease Prevention

Mutec Concrete continues to implement health protocols such as:

  • Regular handwashing and sanitization
  • Provision of masks and gloves for all staff
  • Social distancing at workplaces
  • Health screening before entry to production areas

9. Continuous Improvement

Safety is a continuous process. Mutec Concrete regularly reviews this policy to incorporate new safety technologies, legal changes, and lessons learned from operations.
Regular audits, risk assessments, and safety meetings ensure ongoing improvement and accountability.
